Deputy Minister and President Marie Lemay discusses a key ingredient that is essential to developing a trusting relationship.

In order to reinforce trust with my teams or with the minister, one of the first things I do, is communicate as much as I can. And, be transparent as much as I can. You know, there's a saying that says that “knowledge is power”, well, I believe that shared knowledge is power. And you know, to build a trusting and respectful relationship, go back to basics.

One of the things that I do, is, be myself, be honest and be fair. For example, if you don't have the answer to a question, I don't make it up. It's OK to say you don't have the answer to the question as long as you get it in a timely manner, I think it actually gives you credibility. And I really do everything I can to walk the talk. When I make a commitment, I deliver. That's really important.
